KelpCrofting supplies sustainable, rope-grown kelp as a raw material to the food, feed and health industries. We can provide the highest quality kelp either fresh, frozen or dried (and milled), depending on your needs.  We are passionate about minimizing our environmental impact wherever possible, from production through to delivery, and we are striving to use 100% recyclable or compostable packaging and low-energy drying technology. We guarantee there is no wild-harvested seaweed in our products, and we only supply responsibly farmed species originating from Scottish waters.

Our main cultivated species is Saccharina latissima (sugar kelp or European kombu) and we will start farming Alaria esculenta (winged kelp or European wakame / Atlantic wakame) in autumn 2021. We can also grow Laminaria digitata (Oarweed) if there is sufficient demand.  All our kelp is cultivated from locally collected seed in our own hatchery, providing a truly traceable product.

KelpCrofting have a HACCAP quality control system in place to offer clean kelp, to food-grade standards. We routinely carry out microbiological analysis on our batches of kelp, and test for heavy metals, to ensure it is safe for a variety of uses. Previous analysis has revealed that our kelp is exceptionally low in heavy metals and polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), which is thanks to the excellent water quality off the Isle of Skye.
